When Mason was diagnosed with Leukemia, I knew that home based resources for his education were going to be so important. Battling childhood cancer looks different for everyone, but one common ground shared is missed opportunities. Missing school, missing field trips, missing hands on learning experiences due to this disease was something that was certain to happen. In our efforts to ensure Mason wouldn’t be left behind academically, we began to create our own learning activities for him. In 2016 Drew came across a company called Kiwi Crate, and after reading about them we signed Mason up immediately.
Kiwi crate is a company that designs and ships monthly crates right to your home. The crates are based on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math) learning and divided into age appropriate boxes.
Kiwi Crate makes STEAM accessible, engaging and fun. The goal of Kiwi Crate is to inspire kids to see themselves as scientists, artists, builders, or whatever their mind can imagine.
How it works
The crates are divided into the following age categories 0-36 months tadpole, 3-4 years koala, 5-8 years kiwi, 6-11 years atlas, 9-16+ years doodle and tinker. You can view samples of the contents on their website and you can switch your subscription to a different level crate at anytime (I really like this feature). Once you select the crate you want, you can select the length of your subscription 3, 6, 9 or 12 months. Your crate will be shipped monthly and arrives to your home in a special box, which my kids quickly learned to recognize.
The crate includes everything your little learner will need to create something magical. The crate always has an activity booklet, which gives a lesson behind the activity along with step by step instructions that are easy to follow with pictures for the littles who are just learning to read. I absolutely loved how Mason could build a mechanical sweeper just by following the instruction images in the booklet.
