Doggone Nice Cream

It’s officially melting hot outside and what some consider ice cream weather. Now, while you may be tempted to share a scoop with your dog I encourage you not to. Feeding your dog ice cream could lead to gas, bloating, diarrhea or vomiting. Another concern I have with feeding dogs ice cream is the sugar content which can lead to weight gain and other health complications. If the ice cream indicates “sugar free”, then you need to read the ingredients and make sure xylitol isn’t part of that package. As a certified holistic canine nutritional coach, I encourage you to make your own frozen treats for your dog. The base is banana, bananas are high in potassium, vitamin B6, and vitamin C. In fact, some veterinarians recommend this fruit as a healthy alternative to fatty, salty treats (hotdogs). Doggone Nice cream is a great alternative & a refreshing healthy treat for your pup that you can feel good about giving them from time to time.

Ingredients

1 ripe banana
1/2 cup unsweetened almond or coconut yogurt
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup unsweetened unsalted peanut butter (be sure there is no xylitol) Or you can use pumpkin puree.
fresh blueberries

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients into a bowl and mix.
  2. Stuff your dogs favorite food puzzle and freeze. Dog enrichment is important.
  3. Freeze for 2 hours or longer then ready to serve.

These are a nice pick me up on a melting hot day or just because your dog is amazing and deserves it!
